Workshop on Perform Achieve & Trade (PAT) under National Mission for Enhanced Energy Efficiency (NMEEE)

Hon’ble Prime Minster of India released India’s first National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) on June 2008, outlining existing and future policies and programs addressing climate change mitigation and adaptation. The plan identifies eight core “national missions” and “identifies measures that promote our development objectives while also yielding co-benefits for addressing climate change effectively.”
National Mission for Enhanced Energy Efficiency (NMEE) is one among them, which recommends:

  • Mandating specific energy consumption decreases in large energy-consuming industries, with a system for companies to trade energy-savings certificates;

  • Energy incentives, including reduced taxes on energy-efficient appliances; and

  • Financing for public-private partnerships to reduce energy consumption through demand-side management programs in the municipal, buildings and agricultural sectors.

Perform, Achieve & Trade (PAT) is part of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) initiated Plan on Enhanced Energy Efficiency, Under the PAT scheme, almost 714 industrial units across the country in nine sectors — cement, thermal power plants, fertilizers, aluminum, iron and steel, chlor-alkali, pulp and paper, textiles and railways — will be given targets for reducing energy consumption. The companies that better their targets will be allowed to sell energy-saving credits (ECERTs) to those failing to achieve the required cuts.
Energy Management Centre – Kerala, the State Designated Agency to enforce Energy Conservation Act in Kerala, in association with BEE is organizing a workshop on PAT in Thiruvananthapuram on 22 March 2011. We are inviting two to four nominations  Engineers/officials from your industry/organization to attend the workshop, in order to learn more on PAT implementation.
